Short film Link:  https://youtu.be/yzeH6Kqkx94 Post card: Website:  https://whyofficialmovie.wixsite.com/whyofficialmoive Working on the film was a blast! I've learned not only the process of which many film are made, I've learned the hardships and headaches that go along the process. AICE Media Studies was truly a class worth while! Although the blogs may be annoying at time, the pay-out truly is worth it. Not mention the A-class instructors that walked me through the entire course.

Critical Reflection

    • How do your products represent social groups or issues? My film portrays to a variety of social groups, or niches. My film is a portrayal of a boy, a boy engulfed with self-isolation and mental illness. More specifically, a high school boy. Adolescence is by far the most self-tormenting stage of the human condition. Entering middle school then high school, mental illness and isolation is ever so advent. After all, it is said that 4 in 5 teens suffer from a form of mental illness. Despite the short length of the film, the audience may relate to this character. A character so evidently suffering from mental health but resorts to isolation. The boy reaches out to the audience, not by his actions but his feelings. Feelings of self-disgust, depression, an existential angst. The boy does not know his purpose,  why  he’s alive, or  why  he stays alive. Despite the characters extreme case, every teen ask themselves these essential questions at one point in their lives, “why am I here?”,

Production Blog: Delay in Filming

Image
There may have been a delay in our production. We have made sure to make filming mostly convenient to everyone involved. Though, given that both the actor and my partner are very busy, filming can be difficult most times. My partner is cheerleader, as well the senior class president, her schedule fluctuates. As for me, I have work, of course school work, and after school, club activities. My club takes up most weekdays, leaving it difficult for us to film after school. Alex is no different. He is tasked with not only work, but rehearsal and among other school-related clubs. Essentially, we planned to film on 1/25/22, though Alex had to cancel last minuet. We only have a few scenes left to film. Among other basic editing. All we need is one more day of filming. One more day of filming before we finish this project at last. Well, the film part at least. We still have a bit to do for the class. We are only 5 months into the school year. Anot

Production Blog: Approval Gained

Image
After a long wait, we got it! It may have taken some time and multiple attempts but we got it. At a point, we weren't sure if we were going to. I searched relentlessly for their email, even socials. Though, despite my efforts, nothing. At a point, I thought about simply searching for another audio but no. It had to be this one. More out of stubbornness to be honest, but let's just say it's commitment. There was something that told to just wait. Luckily, that thought was purposeful, not means to contact a psychologist. Although, the audio title may be inappropriate, the content itself is purely non-explicit. Given that I do get in contact with the creator, in a more one-to-one conversation, I would want to ask him some questions. The most bizarre aspect of the entire video may be the comments. Of which I would rather not quote, given the context of this blog. However, that's beside the point. I know have permission to continue editing without restraint. Restraint of wh

Production Blog: New potential

Finally, new audio potential! After my misfortune with the last audio, I finally found another. To be frank, the I would rather not state the name of the video. Despite the content being entirely non-explicit, the name isn't. I genuinely have no clue how the highly explicit name correlates with the audio, but I'm not the creator. I don't really have any say. As of late, I have commented under the video asking for permission to use the audio. Normally, I would rather email the creator. Which, I searched all over their channel and nothing came up. Commonly any creator has at least their social media in their "about" section. Not this creator. It's unconventional, but all I can do is wait for a reply. Until their reply, I began experimenting with the audio. I converted the audio into an mp3 and began to work. It's a 30 minuet video, so there was a lot of cutting. Especially since each few minutes, the sound changes, I had to see which I felt most went with

Production Blog: Further Filming

Image
Second day of filming. We were productive as can be... Allow me to explain; filming took place, mostly inside. We continued to film all the scenes that occur in the bathroom. Which we finished in its entirely. What remained were the late, rising action, climax, and falling action of the film. A lot of filming required to be on hold. To our misfortune, it was raining. The rain acted as a major hinderance to our production. The remaining of the scenes took place in an exterior setting. Thus, we were unable to continue further any progression. Despite such a limitation, we remained vigilant and productive. After briefly becoming situated, filming began and resulted with our current updated version of the short film. It really did not take much. The scene we recorded all occurred in a singular location. A singular location where I was in the same spot. Though, to avoid a distasteful continues take, I offered variations of shots and movements that could be used in the scene. Overall, I be

Production blog: Problems with audio

Image
As of late, finding audios have been troublesome to say the least. We first found a beautiful video. It displays an individual playing the Himalayan bow. It's a video meant to induce a form of meditation. Aiming to help an individual to reach a certain calm. In which, I thought it was a perfect audio to put as the main character has there self-dialogues. So, of course, I searched for the creators email. Which I found under the "about" section on their page. I requested their approval on using the audio and waited for their reply. They replied about a day or so later, denying my request. Their reasoning was that my film sounded too "dark". Further elaborating by stating how beneficial their audio has been in improving the mental health of young men. With the innate, dark nature of my film, it would not fit. I was persistent, I must admit. I responded with a well thought out reply. I explained how the film, although dark, examines the dangers of mental illness.
